Mardi Gras 2019

I thought y'all might like to see some photos from our most recent Mardi Gras / Fat Tuesday Celebration. We love the tradition of Pancakes, Sausage, Bacon, Mimosas and King Cake on this day - but to be honest with you, Fat Tuesday has been a tradition in our home for only about 15 years.

Pancakes on Fat Tuesday was introduced to us when we were stationed at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota. My family and I attended a Pancake Dinner and that is where we were first introduced to the Mardi Gras tradition. The years that followed, incorporated the celebration to help kickstart our Lenten seasons; however, it wasn't until we were stationed at Barksdale, AFB in Louisiana did we come to fully appreciate all that Mardi Gras had to offer! The event is truly one to behold and you don't have to travel all the way to New Orleans to experience the festivities. There are many small towns that host their own Mardi Gras parades. You can head to the Bossier City / Shreveport area or wander down to the Natchitoches, LA and fall in love with a quaint riverside town with a New Orleans feel. Either way, whether you're at home or in the Big Easy - Mardi Gras does offer you the unique opportunity to raid your pantry, party with your family and friends, welcome spring in Timeless, "Laissez les Bon Temps Rouler!" style!
